Verified ReviewerStranded on a highway by Trailways
Absolutely unacceptable experience with Trailways. Our ticket listed an address, but upon arrival, the bus stop was nothing more than a sign and a bench on the side of a highway.
When our 1:40 PM bus failed to arrive, we called customer service only to be told that the bus had already passedon the opposite side of the road at full speed. The driver admitted to seeing us but still didnt stop, violating Trailways own flag stop policy.
Customer service was rude, dismissive, and hung up on us multiple times. Instead of helping, they charged us extra to switch to another bus, despite the issue being entirely their fault. Initially, they insisted we wait two more hours in the same unsafe location.
Eventually, they allowed us to switch to a safer stop but only after charging us an additional $20 per person on top of our $50 tickets.
Horrible service, unsafe locations, and complete disregard for customers. Avoid Trailways at all costs.

Verified ReviewerSold me a ticket for a route that didn't even exist
I recently booked a Ticket with Trailways for a bus ride home for my son, so he could attend a family Christmas party. They sent me a confirmation number, official looking ticket with QR code, etc.
My son went to catch the bus and, after waiting outside for 30 minutes, we started to get concerned. I was unable to track the bus and when I called customer service, I was told this route didn't exist! But they sold me the ticket! Both times I called customer service I got the same agent, who was extremely difficult to understand.
She said she didn't know why it allowed me to book that route (that didn't exist) but also didn't have the ability to issue me a refund.
While we tried to suss this out, my son was still waiting outside (for nearly an hour, all said) before I finally texted him while I was on the phone with Trailway customer service to let him know he should just walk back home, that we had been scammed by Trailway. Sadly, my son missed the family Christmas party.

Verified ReviewerLost Luggage, Customer Service
I used to prefer this bus service over Greyhound, but their customer service when there is an issue is very lacking. I rode from NYC on trip NYT 810 and had luggage stowed away.
I arrived in Syracuse at 3:25 to board the Watertown bus, trip number NYT 619, and I was rushed on. I was given a black suitcase and a red bag which were stowed under the bus. I arrived in Watertown, NY at Byrne Dairy, only to wait for the stow away area to open and then find out it was not my suitcase. I asked the bus driver for help and he said, 'I cannot do anything.' He gave me the dispatch number.
I called them to be hung up on twice. I told customer service that my suitcase was on bus 810 to Toronto and asked if they could intercept the driver. I received a firm no. I was told to fill out a form online.
There should be a way to reach other bus drivers when this happens if caught right away. It would avoid so much stress. All my medicines are in that suitcase.
I felt no one cared. Not once did any person I contacted say they were sorry it happened.
- Clean bus
- Customer service is generic
Preferred solution: Deliver product or service ordered
User's recommendation: Don't let them rush you. Check everything twice over
On weds, I came to kingston tailways for a 6:30am bus. it was $40. The bus was freezing ang bumpy. I arrived at the Port Authority only to race to an Uber for $60 for an appointment at Mt Sinai late
I was able to leave at 12:30. Traileays is not consistent, playing with prices.
I am an older women with a knee appointment. Perhaps I will find another way to travel to NYC.

Verified Buyer |RIDERS BEWARE!
I purchased a ticket for Barons on the Trailways website. Because Trailways, Greyhound and Barons all sell tickets on the same website and use the greyhound bus terminals, I contacted Trailways after never receiving an email confirmation.
The Trailways rep said he resent it twice, but I never received it, and it was not in my Trash/Junk folders either. The Trailways phone rep offered a possible explanation that Trailways website notable has issues with hotmail accounts. When I asked the Trailways rep what I am to do when I arrive at the bus station, and he advised me to call Barons. Barons rep told me to just present my picture ID and the confirmation number.
When Barons Bus #289 arrived at the Columbus OH station, I asked an older, Black male with short graying hair and poor dental hygiene if this is acceptable for boarding that bus to Cincinnati. This driver was so gruff, unprofessional and rude - he just blatantly ignored me and continued to scan riders behind me. I tried again, and he did the same thing. One my third attempt, he gruffly told me to go inside the makeshift bus station and to ask the attendant.
I went inside and there wasn't any attendant. I waited and waited. As I saw the live to board the bus getting down to a few riders, I went outside and approached a security guard who was able to contact the attendant. The attendant had taken a break(?).
The attendant to ld me because my ticket was purchased on the Trailways website and not Greyhound, he has no ability to do anything and that the driver should accept my ID and confirmation number as proof of a ticket. I went back to that driver, and he, still with the worst attitude possible, gruffly grabbed my driver's license from my hand and did what I asked him to do initially - look for my name on a list and match it with the confirmation number I presented him. I was one of the last 2 to be seated on that bus. Being that I arrived at the bus station an hour prior to departure, it was stressful since I hadn't received the confirmation email, no one was manning the desk inside, and the driver of bus 289 behavior.
The ride was eventful. The driver straddled the line between both lanes. It was so disturbing that at least three 18-wheeler trucks hoked their horn at the Barons bus driver and cars drove as close to the shoulder as possible when passing the bus. When the Barons bus driver of #289 was in the left lane of the road, he was driving the bus on the actual bumps which tell the driver their going off the rode by making the tires rumble.
It's apparent that either Barons fails to drug and alcohol check their drivers or this driver is wickedly tired and grumpy. Either way, I'll never patronize Barons bus lines again and advise anyone within earshot and reading this post to not buy a ticket on this bus line either.
Btw, we were about 20 minutes late leaving the Columbus OH bus station since this driver was smoking and talking. Disgusting behaviors to match a sloppy person with a disgusting attitude to match.

Verified Buyer |Most of the bus stations were dirty or no toilet paper in the bathrooms. Everything but dirty. But our driver Dan was fantastic, funny and very timely.
Bus stations were dirty, no toilet paper, no food Really, a few vending machines, some items in them. Bus was ok but could also use a cleaning.
There were charging plugs (not usb) on the bus
However, our driver Dan was fantastic, funny and timely.
He let us know exactly how long breaks were, and kept to the schedule great. He was a shining light for this service.
User's recommendation: Yes, but take your own food and phone chargers
Prices
the prices are difficult to navigate...lots of propaganda about how affordable but not at all. there is a 5 hour window to purchase 1/2 price tickets which make doctor appointments impossible.
the prices have risen to $30 w a senior discount one way. will try not to take the bus.
User's recommendation: increasing prices and more increasing prices...very tricky

Verified Reviewer |Unreliable Always late. Sometimes cancel buses with no warning.
The company requires you to commit to a certain bus at a specific time but they don't feel they should honor that. They can be later 15 to 30 minutes with no notice. They cancel buses with no explanation or notice.
User's recommendation: Avoid them if you can but unfortunately, there is no alternative bus service.
Bad customer service and Heartless
I had purchased 2 tickets to get back home from visiting family. As I got to my second destination to get home I received a call about my family member being found dead.
I had to go back to where I was visiting to be with family. I was historical with the bad news and emailed Trailways in the mist of everything for refund. I called today only to find out I put the wrong confirmation in. As I explained the situation to representative.
The representative told me I had to have proof of death certificate to prove I am family in order to get my $23 refunded back. What a disappointment Im Trailways. I just lost a family member and they want all that for a simple $23. They can Giant Rocks and keep that $23.
Thats not even worth the pain I have to prove relation. Trailways have no morals or compassion to situations. Nobody should be asked that. Just tell me no.
How disgusting I am with them. Keep that $23
User's recommendation: I don’t recommend Trailways

I hope the attendant put my bags into the storage space two duffel bags, and a black-suite case with the carrying case when we arrive to Binghamton, the first stop that they made to let other pedestrian on and off the bus, and when we got to Port Authority, the guy was had pulled out the bag. He pulled out three of my bags and I was missing the big black suitcase and thats how we got here. Thank you.
